Sharlan Douglas   

Royal Oak City Commissioner Sharlan Douglas' career has taken her on a trajectory through traditional journalism, broadcasting, public relations agencies and nonprofit management. She was the founding executive director of the Eight Mile Boulevard Association, CEO of a chamber of commerce and, since 2005 has owned and run Douglas Communications Group, a Royal Oak public relations and marketing communications firm. At douglasgroup.biz/blogs she writes about the things that inspire or annoy her. Usually that involves clear writing, good listening and effective storytelling with an occasional detour into technologies that make our lives easier or better.

She is currently the president of Douglas Communications Group, a former president of the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce and was the founding executive director of the Eight Mile Boulevard Association.

Most recently, in January 2015, Douglas was elected president of the Michigan Association of Planning, a non-profit organization focused on helping communities plan for the future.

A 20+ year resident of Royal Oak, she lives with her husband in a 1918 Arts & Crafts home, joined by his mother and a rescue dog.
She has a BA in Journalism from Michigan State University and is a graduate of studies in urban planning at Wayne State University.

The Douglas Communications Group is a full service public relations firm, based in southeast Michigan.
