Osborne Henry Douglas was born on 14th March 1880 in Launceston Tasmania. The son of Sir Adye (14th Premier of Tasmania) and Lady Ida Douglas (nee Richards), he was a solicitor.

From 1898 until 1905 he played first class cricket with Tasmania.

He embarked in Melbourne on 2nd October 1916 on board “HMAT Nestor” with the 22nd Battalion.

Lance Corporal Douglas was killed in action 24th April 1918 in France and is commemorated on the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Dernancourt, Corbie Albert Area, France.



Osborne Henry Douglas son of the late Sir Adye and Lady Douglas was killed in action in France on April 24. The deceased soldier who was about 30 years of age was well known in Tasmania, and figured prominently in cricket circles, participating in many North and South and interstate matches. Prior to enlistment he was for four years practising as a solicitor at Nhill (Vic.), where he joined the army two years ago.

Lady Douglas had four sons on active service, one being invalided back to Tasmania about a month ago, being badly wounded in the arm, and another is attached to a Canadian Regiment.

Four sons-in-law have also joined the colours one, Dr. Guy Bailey, having paid the supreme sacrifice a year ago.
