When Hiram Arnett Douglas was born on 13 August 1875, in Arnett, Washington, Arkansas, United States, his father, William Calvin Douglas, himself the son of Rev. Hiram Douglas, was 32 and his mother, Martha Arnett, was 35. He married Grace Dorothy Gilmore on 29 November 1900, in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in White River Township, Washington, Arkansas, United States in 1880 and Detroit Ward 2, Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States for about 10 years.

He was a member of the Detroit Club and president of the Northern Sugar Corporation of Minnesota.

He resided at 35 Blackstone Avenue, Detroit, Michigan.

He died on 10 January 1962, in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, United States, at the age of 86, and was buried in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, United States.
