Bryant F Douglas, son of John Rabon Douglas, himself the son of James Douglas, and Susan Howee, was born on 09 Sep 1798 in Cabarrus, North Carolina, USA.

He married (1) Abigail G Fuller in 1839. She was born on 01 Dec 1816 in North Carolina, USA. She died on 08 Aug 1896 in Henderson, Tennessee, USA.
He married (2) Rhoda D Johnson on 28 May 1821 in Mecklenburg, Virginia, USA. She was born on 24 Apr 1799 in North Carolina, USA. She died on 12 Nov 1839 in Chester, Pennsylvania, USA. Bryant F Douglas died on 18 Feb 1867 in Lexington, Henderson, Tennessee, USA.

His brother, Rayborn Douglas was born in 1803 in Cabarrus, North Carolina, USA and died on 12 May 1886 in Lexington, Henderson, Tennessee, USA.

One of Bryant Douglass' sons [already grown] was John T. Douglass, who the 1850 and 1860 censuses consistently suggest was born in Tennessee in 1825. According to the Civil War federal pension application of his widow, Martha Jane Douglass (National Archives: #2214808) he was married to her, a Miss Meals, September 8, 1847; they had surviving children: James Gray Douglass, born October 21, 1852; Lewis Bryant Douglass, born October 26, 1855; John Newton Douglass, born April 5, 1861; Tennessee Grant Douglass, born December 11, 1863; that he had enlisted in the Federal army, Company B, Third West Tennessee Cavalry at Corinth, Mississippi, in July 1863; that he was taken prisoner during an engagement at Como, Tennessee, October 7, 1863 and was sent to POW camp at Danville, Virginia, where suffering from dysentery, he was hospitalized and died February 26, 1864. Among the depositions in this application was that sworn May 23, 1876 by Abigal Douglass who identified herself as John T. Douglass' stepmother.

Bryant F. DOUGLAS was born on 8 Sep 1798 in North Carolina. He died on 18 Feb 1867 in 8th District, Henderson County, Tennessee. He was buried in 1867 in Douglas Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Bryant married Rhoda Stegald JOHNSON on 28 May 1821 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Rhoda was born on 24 Apr 1799 in North Carolina, USA. She died on 12 Nov 1839 in Henderson County, Tennessee. She was buried in Nov 1839 in Pearson Cemetery, First District, Henderson County, Tennessee.

They had the following children.

Frelinghuysen "Hisen" DOUGLAS was born in 1846. He died in 1900.

Dr. Louis S. Douglass, a distinguished African American citizen of Henderson County, was born in October 1853 to Cato and Melvina Douglass. His maternal grandmother was Becky Douglass. All three were enslaved prior to the Civil War, serving Bryant Douglass, a prosperous white farmer whose estate lay along what is now Union Cross Road—primarily west of the road and north of present-day Interstate 40.  In December 1883, Dr. Lou bought 200 acres of the old white Douglass farm, including the homestead of Abigail, widow of Bryant Douglass.

In Bryant Douglass' list of bond-folk in the summer of 1860 (Henderson County Slave Schedule, 1860 U.S. Census, page 3) were eleven persons, one of whom was a female aged 40 years (Becky, born about 1818); a male given as age 27 (Cato, although he was apparently somewhat older); a female given as age 21 (Melvina, although she was evidently somewhat older); a male given as age 7 (Dr. Lou); a male given as age 3 (perhaps Thadius, born about 1857). In the U.S. Census of June 15, 1880, Civil District 8, Henderson County, page 288, Cato Douglass' age was given as 52; Melvina's as 41; L. J. (Liza Jane) as 17; Tommy as 14; Will as 10, Jo A., daughter, as 7; N. A., daughter, as 4; M. S. L., daughter, as 1 and Nely A., daughter as five months old.
