Captain William Henry Douglas was the son of
Francis Douglas, Esq., many years a purser in the Royal
Navy; and brother of Captain Francis Douglas, R. N.
This officer
obtained a lieutenant's commission on the 11th Jan. 1797; commanded the
Cracker gun-brig, in action with a division of French gun-vessels,
proceeding from Fecamp to Boulogne, July 23d, 1805; and was promoted to
his present rank (Commander) Dec. 4th, 1813. He married, Oct. 29th,
1811, Miss Elizabeth Love Hammick, of Plymouth.
Captain William
Henry Douglas married Elizabeth Love Hammick, daughter of Stephen
Hammick and Elizabeth Margaret Love, on 29 October 1811 at St. George,
Stonehouse, Devon, England. They had three daughters,
• Louisa born 1816,
married 18 Dec 1866 British chaplain at Berne, et al
• Sophia born 1817 and
• Elizabeth, who on 21st July 1836 at Plymouth,
married Carteret J. Kempson of Abingdon Street, Kensington, Westminster.
William and Elizabeth's son,
Stephen Francis Douglas married Mary Louisa, eldest daughter of
Stratford Stratton Baxter, esq., of Mancetter Manor in March 1860, at Mancetter, Warwickshire.
