John Charles Sholto Douglas, 21st Earl of Morton John Charles Sholto Douglas, born March 19, 1927, succeeded his cousin and became the 21st and present Earl of Morton in 1976. He is head of the male line of the Douglas family. The 21st Earl petitioned the Lord Lyon King of Arms for the title of Chief of Douglas.
