Battle of Shrewsbury

On 21st July 1403 - Battle of Shrewsbury

The Earl of Douglas and Hotspur marched together against Henry IV and met him at the Battle of Shrewsbury on 21 July 1403. They were outnumbered and, perhaps in desperation, Hotspur attempted to correct this with a charge aimed at killing King Henry himself. The Royal Standard was overthrown. Its carrier, Sir Walter Blount was hacked down by Sir Archibald Douglas himself. Sir Archibald also killed Sir Edmond Stafford, 5th Earl of Stafford in personal combat. Hotspur was killed in this attempt with an arrow through the mouth.
