George Douglas of Leswalt

When George died, in 1463, the lands of Leswalt and Cruggleton reverted to the crown, as a consequence of the forfeiture of all of the 8th Earl of Douglas properties in 1456.  They were appropriated by Mary of Gueldres, the Queen Mother.

They were subsequently claimed by Gilbert Kennedy (later Lord Kennedy), a half brother to George, through his mother's second marriage of Dunure for his son, John. These passed to his son, Alexander, who made them over to his brother, David, 3rd Lord kennedy, from whom the earls of Cassilis are descended.
