George Sholto Douglas, 17th Earl of Morton
George Sholto, the grandson of James, 14th Earl of Morton by his second wife, was born December 23, 1789. He inherited the Morton titles after the death of his half-cousin without issue. He married Frances T. Rose, daughter of The Right Honorable Sir George H. Rose, G.C.H., who bore him 11 children. Of his five sons, one succeeded as Earl, one became an Admiral of the Royal Navy, one the Vicar of St. Paul's Worcester, and another rose to the Bishopric of Aberdeen and Orkney. George Sholto devoted his own life to diplomatic service. He was sometime (?1815) HM Secretary of Legation at the Court of Berlin, and also Secretary of Legation at Florence. He was the sword bearer on the occasion of King George IV accepting the keys to Holyrood
