William Douglas of Moffat, 1581 (Great Seal Register). Arms of Douglas of Moffat are shown in Sir David Lindsay's MS., 1542 — Argent, a lion's head erased gules, on a chief of the second two stars of the first.

He was the son of Patrick Douglas of Corehead, who in 1542 was also described as being 'of Moffat'.

They are descendants of the Douglases of Morton and Dalkeith.

•  Clan Moffat has a long history in Moffat. They are accepted as allied family of the Douglases.  The Clan Douglas Society of North America (CDSNA) has produced a booklet on the Douglas allied families septs. It can be downloaded as a pdf here>> link to Septs booklet See page 114.
