We have not yet found a source that deals satisfactorily with the deMorville family, showing how (if at all) the various Hugh de Morevilleswere connected. Many web sites clearly mix them up. The following is anattempt to pull the basic 'facts' together.
TCP (Multon) reports:
Simon de Morvill
Simon is reported by some web sites to have died in 1140 and to have beenson of Hugh de Moreville who came into England at the time of theConquest.
m. Ada Engaine (dau of William Engaine by Eustacie)
1. Hugh de Morvill of Burgh (forester of Cumberland)
Some web sites suggest that this was the Hugh (d 1204) who was one ofthe murderers of Thomas Becket. That Hugh was lord of Knaresborough whichsome sites report as having been obtained by this Hugh through hismarriage to Heloise. Other sites say that Hugh of Knaresborough was sonof Hugh, Constable of Scotland (see below). It is noted thatKnaresborough and Burgh were in the same region.
m. Heloise de Stuteville (dau of Robert de Stuteville)
A. Ada de Morvill (d after 1240)
