- Marriage record shows Bassel Riddle signed with an "X" and the surety was Zachariah Riddle (groom's father). Milly Hill listed as a "widow." Reverend George Dodson was the minister.
According to an 1816 Pittsylvania Co., VA, Court Book #17, page 146, there was a lawsuit involving Bazzle/Barksdale Riddle and his wife Milly Hill vs. Edna Hill, Elizabeth, Jonathan, and Joseph Hill for claim of 1/3 part of land and with the remainder to be divided into four parts, one part for each defendant. Further references to this lawsuit are made in Book 18, page 19; Book 31, page 284 dated 1834; and Book 42, page 296 dated March 1852. These records are contained under "Plaintiff Records." [4]

Notes |
- The following miscellaneous notes where given to me by Paula Rosselle, a Riddle family researcher who lives in Midlothian, VA.
These notes were transmitted to me by e-mail between January 10, and January 28, 2003.
In 1820, Barksdale Riddle buys 90 acres of property on Lower Double Creek which lies about 19 miles east from the Chatham Courthouse (Pittsylvania Co.). It appears that Barksdale paid taxes on this property until 1839.
