    ANSWERS THE FINAL SUMMONS
    FORMER CHARITON YOUNG MAN PASSES TO THE BEYOND
    Remains Brought to This Place for Interment- Beautiful Tribute by Fellow Employees.
    The remains of Richard Douglass, who died suddenly at his home in Peoria, Ill., on Monday, November 21, 1904, with apoplexy, were brought to Chariton on the afternoon of Thanksgiving day and interred in the Chariton Cemetery, brief services at the grave being conducted by Rev. Fred B. Palmer. Funeral services were held at the residence in Peoria on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the telegraph operators of the P. & P.U., and the Knights of Maccabees, of which orders he was a member, attended in a body.
    Richard Douglass was the son of Noble Douglass of this city and the early years of his life were spent in Chariton. On August 4, 1886, he was married at Thayer, Iowa, to Miss Ella McFarland. They moved to Illinois in 1893 and for ten years before his death resided in Peoria where he was employed as a telegraph operator. He had been ailing for about ten months but was only seriously ill for about three hours. He leaves a wife and four children and to them the tenderest sympathy of a host of Chariton friends is extended. From a paper published at Peoria we take the following eulogy which was sent out to his fellow employees.
    Fellow Employees, P. & P.U. railway: Death has entered our ranks and taken form among us Operator Richard D. Douglass.
    Those of us who knew him personally knew him as a man of kindly heart. That he would divide his last dollar with a friend.
    It was a pleasure to meet him, and his gentle nature made us loath to leave him. Friends remained his friends, and strangers were drawn to him until they became his friends.
    There are many heavy hearts today on the P. & P.U.
    Let us as a small token of regard and memory of him lay upon his bier a wreath of flowers in loving remembrance of our departed friend Dick.

    Harley Fietta Niswender, 74 of Gillette died Friday fro m a self-inflicted gun shot wound, according to local autho rities.
    Mr. Niswender had been in ill health for some time, and i t was belived that he was dispondent concerning his health.
    Funeral services for the long-time resident of Gillette whe re conducted from the chapel of the Noecker Funeral Home a t 2 p.m., Tuesday, december 19, 1961, with the Rev. Rober t M Phoenix officiating, and the rev. Glen Burris assisting.
    LaVern harrod sang " What a Friend We Have in Jesus" "Beyon d the Sunset" and "We Are Going Down the Valley" accompanie d by Mrs. Lewis Grams at the organ.
    Pallbearers where Leroy Christnick, Herbert Strey, Lee Newt on, Charley Tyrrell, Charles C. Olds and jack W. Hamm, al l of Gillette.
    Honorary pallbearers where. Thomas Street, Dan Bennor, Elme r Jones, Lewis C Barlow, S. O. Sherman, Hawley Drum, Joe Ma gnusson and Elmer Thomas.
    Burial was made at Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette.
    Harley F. Niswender was born to Mr. an d Mrs George Niswend er in Lucas County, Iowa. on July 13, 1887 in 1905 he was u nited in marriage to Cosie Alice Scott at chariton, Iowa, a nd nine children were born to this union. He moved with hi s family to Wyoming in 1917 and homesteaded 18 miles southw est of Gillette, where he made his home for some time.
    He united in marriage to Blanch Etter in 1955 at Chariton , Iowa, and returned to Gillette.
    He was preceded in death son Alvis in 1917.
    Survivors are his wife, Blanch; six sons, Rex, Zelton, Dwig ht, Wendel and Oliff all of Gillette, and son Darvin of Wes terville, Illinois; two daughters Mrs Kenneth ( Desma ) Doy le of Alliance, Nebraska, and Mrs. Thomas ( Veta ) McClur e of paris, Illinois; 22 grand children; 2 brothers Orbin a nd Otis Niswender and 1 sister Flossie Baker all of Charito n, Lucas County, Iowa.

    Guy Niswender, one of the twin sons of Mr. Otis Niswender , died at the family home in Chariton last Saturday, at th e age of about thirteen years, after an illness of ten day s with bronchial pneumonoa and influenza. Funeral services , conducted by Rev. Huffman, of Granger, where held at th e Norwood M. E. Church on Sunday at two o'clock, followed b y internment in the Norwood Cemetery. He was a bright lad , admired and esteemed by all who knew him, and his passin g away has brought sadness to many hearts.

    Alliance-Desma E Doyle, 94, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Goo d Samaritan Health Care Center.
    She was born July 3, 1906, at Lucas, Iowa. Her parents wer e Harley and Cozette ( Scott ) Niswender.
    Her family moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1919.
    She was married to Kenneth E Doyle on March 4, 1926, at Gi llette. Mr. Doyle preceded her in death.
    The couple moved to Alliance in 1930.
    She worked for many years as a nurses aide at Saint Joseph 's Hospital.
    She was a member of the First Christian Church, Royal Neig hbors, Rebekah's Eagles Auxiliary and the Gold Age Club.
    She is survived by her son and daughter- in-law Harley an d Doris Doyle of Alliance; grandchildren Joyce and Bruce Lu ndy of Vermillion, Minnisota, and Earl and gaylene Doyle o f Forest, Virginia; nine great-grandchildren; and numerou s nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
    Mrs. Doyle's memorial services will be a t 10 a.m. Monday , Oct. 23, at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance, with th e Reverend Walter Cline and Reverend Mark Schutt officiatin g.
    Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may b e made to Prairie haven Hospice or to the First Christian C hurch.

    In a phone conversation with Loretta, ( her niece ). She to ld me about her resturant / cafe, She had owned a portion o f a town block. Where apartments, laundry service and othe r buildings stood. Those who frequented her resturant wher e none other then, Al Capone, The famous Dillingers. of who m ironicaly where related to Veta's sister in law, Inez Ire ne Dillinger who married Veta's brother Rex Niswender. Veta 's resturant had a special meaning. Twice on 2 seperate oca sions. 2 of Veta's brothers came to visit ( Oliff, Darvin ) . Bolth ended up marrying Veta's waitresses. Veta was repor ted saying "I am not allowing no more of my brothers down h ere to visit. "

    VETA OPAL BELL
    Funeral services for Veta Opal Bell, 82, where today at 1 0 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Gillette. Rev. Da n Barcus officiated, and Mrs bell was buried after the serv ice at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette.
    Mrs Bell died Monday June 4, 1990 at her Pioneer Manor.
    She was born Feb. 6, 1908 in Lucas county, Iowa, to Mr. Ha rley Fayetta and Alice Cosetta ( Scott ) Niswender at 8 sh e moved with her parents to Campbell county, where her fath er homesteaded southwest of Gillette. She was educated at r ural schools.
    On Sep. 6, 1926, she married Wayne Asay of Gillette, and t hey soon moved back to Paris, Illinois, where thier son Del mar was born, and where she operated the Delmar Cafe.
    In 1967 she moved back to Gillette, and in same year marri ed Harold Bell of Gillette. They lived at thier home on Wes t Fourth Street until her Death.
    Mrs. Bell enjoyed playing cards, croucheting, particular y dollies that she gave to friends.
    She is survived by her husband Harold of Gillette; siste r Desma Doyle of Alliance, Neb.; brother Darvin Niswender o f Westville, Illinois; granddaughter Mickey Sue Englade an d great grandson Eric Erchull, bolth of Lapace, LA. She i s also survived by numerous step children. Including Alber t and Ray Bell, step grandchildren and step great grandchil dren.
    A memorial has been established at Pioneer Manor of Gillet te. Noecker Funeral Home was in charge of arangements.

    Niswender Rites Set For Monday

    Z. H. "Shorty" Niswender, 66, longtime Gillette resident di ed Wednesd ay at Campbell County Memorial Hospital as the r esult of a pedestrian-car accident in Gillette.
    Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Noecker F uneral Home Chapel in Gillette with Pastor Dave Eggebraate n officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gil lette.
    He was born January 5, 1911, to Harley F. and Alice Cozett a Scott Niswender of Lucas County, Iowa. He spent his child hood and attended school in Iowa and moved with his parent s to Wyoming in 1919. He completed his education in Campbel l County rural schools.
    He homesteaded southwest of Gillette and worked for the Hud son Motor Company of Gillette as mechanic. He entered the A rmy in 1942. In 1945, after receiving his discharge, he ret urned to Gillette. He then married Lula Belle Clark in 1952.
    Until his retirement in 1962, he had been employed by the B urlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of American Le gion Post 42 and The Eagles Lodge 2711.
    A memorial has been established to the American Legion Pos t 42. Donations may be left at the Noecker Funeral Home.
    Survivors include a step-son James Clark of Gillette, fou r brothers: Dwight of Thompson Falls, Montana; Wendell an d Oliff of Gillette; Darvin of Westville, Illinois; two sis ters: Mrs. Desma Doyle and Mrs. Veta Bell both of Gillette . Several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceeded in death by two brothers.
    Noecker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Anaconda Montana, A funeral for Dwight Niswender 74. a fo rmer Gillette resident, took place at 10 a.m. Friday in th e Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home at Anaconda.
    Pastor John Allen of Hope Lutheran Church officiated. Inter nment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Anaconda.
    Mr. Niswender died Sunday, Dec. 18, 1988 at Anaconda Hospit al.
    He was born in Gillette on March 3, 1914, to Harley and Al ice Cozeiett Scott Niswender . After attending schools in G illette he worked on several ranches. he also worked for th e Burlington Northern Railroad in Gillette. Mr. Niswender t hen went to work for the U.S. Forest Service in Thompson Fa lls, Montana . until his retirement.     70, a long time resident of Gillette and Campbell County, d ied Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1989, in the Campbell County Memori al Hospital after a heart attack.
    The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Noecker Funera l Home Chapel, with Pastor Seth Johnson of the Antelope Val ley Baptist Churc h officiating. Burial will be in the Mt . Pisgah Cemetery. Mr. Niswender was born Nov. 1, 1919 in C hariton, Iowa, to Harley and Alice Cozetta ( Scott ) Niswen der. at age 3, he moved with his parents to a homestead sou th of Gillette, where he grew up and attended a country gra de school. For many years Mr. Niswender worked on area ranc hes as a ranch hand. On Aug. 16, 1954 he maried Pauline Hal l in Terre Haute, Indiana. They lived in Paris Illinois fo r a short time before moving back to Gillette, where they h ad lived since.
    Mr. Niswender worked for the Campbell County Road and Bridg e Department and retired from there in 1981 a fter 25 years . he was a member of the Antelope Valley Baptist Church, th e Moose Lodge and the F.O. Eagles Aerie Lodge NO. 2711.
    Survivors include his wife, Pauline; one son, Lyle L. Niswe nder of Buffalo; for daughters, Mary Jane Brendel and Hele n Harper, bolth of Gillette, and Genia Berry and Loretta Mo rrison of Helena Montana; one brother, Dorvin Niswender o f Westville, Illinois; two sisters, Veta Bell of Gillette , and Desma Doyle of Alliance, Nebraska; and 10 grandchildr en and four great-grandchildren.
    Visitation is at the Noecker funeral Home Chapel today fro m 2 to 7 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. until the service . A mem orial has been established to the Campbell County h ealth Care Foundation for ca ncer care and may be sent in c are of Noecker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 734, in Gil lette.
