Notes |
- An undated newspaper clipping provided by Janice (Mrs. Leland) Marshall,
details a tragedy in this family:
" A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT
" Mrs. John Marshall Caught
" By A Revolving Shaft
" Her Scalp Completely
" Torn Away. She
" May Recover.
"A most distressing accident occured at the home of John Marshall about three miles east of Wurtemburg last Monday morning. Mr. Marshall has in the basement of his house a gas engine which furnishes power for various purposes including a washing machine. Mrs. Marshall was alone in the cellar and in some way her hair came in contact with a revolving shaft which lifted her from her feet and tearing her scalp from the eyebrows to the nape of the neck, besides most of her clothing. Just how it all happened is not known, but Mrs. Marshall's sister Miss Mazie Liebendorfer of Wurtemburg who happened to be at the Marshall home, was horrified at seeing the injured woman staggering up the rear steps from the basement where the accident happened.
"Drs. Snyder of Portersville and Ralston of Harmony where at once summoned who replaced the scalp and made the terribly injured lady as comfortable as possible. Mrs. Marshall is kept constantly under the influence of opiates and while hopes are entertained for her recovery, she is in a very precarious condition and the outcome is by no means certain."
