John C. Canine, Big Horse Buyer Died Last Night
John C. Canine died at 7:45 o'clock Friday night at his home 208 W.College Street after an illness of several months from a complicationof diseases. An operation at Culver Union Hospital a few days agofailed to give him relief. Mr. Canine who was one of the best knownmen in Montgomery County was born near Waveland, October 4, 1850, andhis early boyhood was spent as a farmer. He removed to Waveland wherehe continued to reside until 8 years ago when he moved toCrawfordsville to make his home. Mr. Canine during almost his entirelife has been engaged in the horse and mule buying business which hasgiven him a wide acquaintance over several counties. He is survived byhis wife and five children: TS Canine and Mrs. FE Livengood of thiscity; HR Canine, Danville, Ill; Mrs. MW Sheffield of Frankfort Ky andBH Canine of Russellville and one brother TJ Canine. J.C. Canine, livery and sale stable, Waveland, was b. in Brown Twp,Montgomery Co In Oct 4,1 850 and is the son of William and MarthaCanine, who were early settlers of the County. Mr. Canine was raisedon a farm, but has been engaged mostly in dealing in stock. He is theowner of a fine livery and sale stable, and keeps a fine assortment ofhorses and carriages at very cheap rates. In 1872 he marr. Miss MaryE. Burford of Montgomery Co. Mr. Canine is a wide-awake business manand is always ready to attend to business."
