Sir John Murray, Knight of Philiphaugh was one of the judges for trying those of Counties of Roxburgh and Selkirk; joined Graham's standard in 1646, claimed ?12,014 for damages he sustained from Montrose in 1649; married 1) Anne Douglas, daughter of Sir Archibald Douglas of Cavers, and had six sons and four daughters; married 2) Margaret Scott, daughter of Sir John Scott, by whom he had a daughter Jean who died young. He died in 1676. Succeeded by his son Sir James Murray.
