I received the marriage certificate today of Harvey S. Hamilton withMargaret J. Woodrow, 30 May 1889 (Cheyenne Co., CO Marriage Book 1,page 1). ...etc... Theirs evidently was the first marriage to beperformed in that then-newly-erected county. The witnesses were herbrother, Charles S. Woodrow, and his bride-to-be, Mary Rose "May"Purdy. When the latter married there on 25 Jan 1891, the Hamiltonsreciprocated as their witnesses. ...etc...both Hamilton and Woodrowwere early pioneers there, and apparently locally prominent,...etc...Charles and Margaret Woodrow were the eldest two children ofJeremiah Woodrow and Permelia Byers of Jackson Co., Ohio. "The Cheyenne Wells library turned my request over to the HistoricalSociety a few weeks ago, and that's what I'm waiting for. But, Iobtained a lookup from the Fairview Cemetery records, and Harvey issaid to be listed as 1841-1912. Margaret isn't shown. "The Town of Cheyenne Wells is a Statutory Town that is the countyseat and most populous town of Cheyenne County, Colorado, UnitedStates.[5] The population was 1,010 at the 2000 census. CheyenneWells is located at 38?49'16?N, 102?21'13?W (38.821141,-102.353637)[6].

From 1870 in Warren County, Iowa, until a marriage certificate wasgenerated in Cheyenne County, Colorado, it's unknown as to when HarveyS. Hamilton decided to move from Iowa to Colorado at the present time. A good deal more research is needed.
1889 - The counties of Cheyenne, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Otero andProwers formed from portions of Elbert and Bent counties.

I paid for copies of afew pages (which I seem to have misfiled), but his date of death wasenough to enlist a distant relative living in Denver to visit theColorado State Library to try to find an obit. Harvey S. Hamilton died at his home in Cheyenne Wells on New Year'smorning, after an illness of several weeks. Deceased was born nearLebanon, Ind., March 5th 1842 [sic?]. When a mere lad he moved withhis parents to Indianola, Iowa, where he lived until he became a man.Then he moved to Osborn City, Kansas, where he was converted andunited with the M.E. church of which he was a faithful member up tothe time of his death. In the year of 1887, he located in CheyenneWells, and established himself in the mercantile business in 1890.Several years afterwards in 1894 he became a stockholder in theCheyenne County State Bank, and held the position of president of thatinstitution up to the time of his death.
He was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Woodrow in the year 1889,they being the first couple wedded in Cheyenne County. To this unionone son was born. He was a man of excellent habits, fine moralcharacter and sturdy constitution and he continued to be active in hisaccustomed persuits 'till long past the age at which men ordinarilydrop out of the ranks of the workers. He had filled the variousrelations of life as son, husband, father, brother, friend and filledthem well. But he is gone! Another name is stricken from the everlessening roll of our old settlers, and a solitary woman, a son, and alonely home are left to attest how sadly they will miss him. It mustbe so; these tender humanities cannot be severed without a pang. Hislife work was done and well done. He had passed his three score yearsand wearied with life's duties and cares, weary of suffering andwaiting, he lay down to rest. The stearn Reaper found him "as a shockof corn, fully ripe for the harvest." The silver cord is loosed, thegolden bowl is broken, the dust has returned to the earth as it was;the spirit has returned to the God who made it. He remembered hiscreator in the day of his youth, ere the evil day came, or the yearsdrew nigh, when he should say I have no pleasure in them; has finishedhis course and reached the heavenly goal.
The funeral services were held at the church, Tuesday January 3rd, at11 o'clock. Rev. A. G. Voigt officiating. The casket was covered withbeautiful floral designs. The remains were laid to rest in thecemetery south of [town...]" "3 resolutions of condolence andMargaret's card of thanks published in the Cheyenne Republican arealso on file, as are copy of some of the papers from Harvey's ProbateFile P-018 on file at the Cheyenne Co. Courthouse."
