- Former general practitioner Bradford, West Yorkshire (b 1920; q Edinburgh 1945), d 12 May 2011.
Born in Southampton into a family of Scottish descent, George Keith Douglas ("Keith") was awarded a Carnegie bursary to study medicine in Edinburgh. After graduation, he briefly worked in general practice in Stirlingshire and then moved to run a dispensing practice in Bradford.
He was singlehanded for 23 years, spanning the beginnings of the NHS and local immigration. He also worked as a police surgeon, was doctor for the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford, and became president of the local medico-chirurgical society.
Keith retired in 1988, became active in the local National Trust, continued his lifelong passion for classical music, and enjoyed travelling in his beloved Yorkshire Dales. He leaves Mavis, his wife of 65 years; three children; and six grandchildren.
