- (Research):Possibly the Reverend Joseph Douglas "who would teach English grammar, writing, arithmetic, bookkeeping, the use of the globe, geograplu', astronomv, and belle lettres" "in a school for girls was flourishing in Chestertown under the direction of Mrs. Mansell"
"in the following August [1802] an advertisement appeared announcing the opening of tlie Chestertown Primarv School and Kent County Academy under the direction of the Reverend Joseph Douglas."* 'llie announcement reported that a school room had been prepared in a most convenient and handsome manner. For the accommodation of those young ladies who had not completed their education under Mrs. Mansell,^ ^ Mr. Douglas announced that the services of Miss Arabella Henderson, of Wilmington, had been secured. She agreed to open a Young Ladies' School in a separate apartment, \\\\here she would teach plain sewing and samplers, embroidery, ??flo\\\\cring on musllin, and filagree, lace, and fancy work. Joseph and Samuel Douglas planned to teach the Greek and Latin languages, the English grammar, writing, and bookkeeping."
Assuming Joseph and Samuel mentioned here were brothers, and the children of Henry and jJne,this would put Josephe's date of birth earlier than Cir 1789.
The above would appear to be in Maryland, USA
