"COMBS, Esther M. Garrison
Esther M. Combs, Esther M. Combs, 83. formerly of East Moline andCambridge, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Balch Springs Nursing Home,Balch Springs, Texas. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m.Saturday, May 8th, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore FuneralServices. Rev. Tim Snart will officiate. Burial will be in RosedaleCemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to theservice. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or alocal hospice unit.
The former Esther Marie Garrison was born April 1, 1921 in Cambridge,the daughter of Arthur L. and Anna E. Munson Garrison. She was raisedand educated in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in1939. Her marriage to William E. Combs took place on June 29, 1939 inCambridge. He died August 11, 1976. Esther was a secretary andbookkeeper and had been employed at the Henry County Farm Bureau, inCambridge while living there. After moving to East Moline in 1959, sheworked at American Machine and Metal, East Moline, Briggs InsuranceAgency, Rock Island, and then at J.L. Brady Plumbing in East Molineuntil her retirement. She moved to California in 1996 and lived inTexas for the past couple of years. Her memberships include the RoyalNeighbors of America.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Carol Combs,Clayton, CA, four grandchildren and (spouses), Kathleen (Dave)Haugan, Steven (Katrina) Combs, and Douglas (Amanda) Combs, all ofCoon Rapids, MN, and Deborah (Judson) Baker, Brentwood, CA. Alsosurviving are great grandchildren, Erik, Aimee, David, and JonathanHaugan, Michael and Emily Combs, Ashley, Tyler, and Eleanor Combs, andJoshua and Madelyn Baker, a sister, Frances "Billie" Bierman,Shipman, IL, and two brothers, Charles Garrison, Cambridge, and ArthurL. Garrison II, Seagoville, TX.
Her parents, her husband, four sisters, Ella, Zepha, Loretta, andMarcella, and a brother, Robert, preceded her in death. The Dispatchand The Quad Cities Times, Thursday, May 6, 2004
