Obituary from Hampton Recorder
Jesse Leverich was born March 15, 1818, in Onondaga Co., NY and raised on a farm. He was early thrown upon his own resources, his father dying while he was yet a boy, and such education as he obtained was by his own efforts. In 1849 he removed to Rock County, Wisconsin, and opened up a farm in a timbered country, seventy miles or more from market, and underwent all the hardships incident to the settlement of a new country.
In 1843 he was married to Mary Case, also a native of Onondaga Co., NY, and they lived together until her death, December 25, 1900. to whom were born six children, five of whom survive. They are Mrs. Mary L. Raymond, of Hampton; Homer G. Leverich, of Huron, South Dakota; Bayard T. Leverich of Nicollet, Minn.; Mrs. Adele Hackett, of Des Moines, and Will C. Leverich, of Elgin, Illinois.
In the early life he was a member of the M.E. church, but over 50 years ago he became a convert to the doctrine of modern spiritualism, and continued him in the varying shades of that belief as long as he remained in possesion of his mental faculties. He was a man who always had the reputation of being honest in his dealings with his fellow-men and was kind and indulgent to his family.
In the spring of 1868, he removed to Waverly, Iowa, and made his home there until December, 1904, when he came to Hampton to spend the remainder of his days with his daughter, Mrs. L. B. Raymond, where he died last evening, December 27th. Short services will be held at the residence, corner Grove and Eighth streets, Friday morning at 9:30, after which the remains will be conveyed to Waverly where the burial will take place the same day at 1:00 p.m.
