Notes |
- There are only two "Grooms" listed per the 1870 Federal Census livingin Liberty, Casey County, Kentucky with their families who were bornin Tennessee--James Grooms of Tennessee and John S. Grooms ofTennessee. This compiler is listing them as brothers until furtherresearch is completed since their ages are so close together and theirbirths are in Tennessee as well. James's neighbors are Wetherington'sand Wethington's. Especially, Ervin Green Wethington a directdescendant of the Grooms family through Felix Sherman and Ova GroomsWethington. Also, a William Grooms is listed as a farm hand in thesame census year of 1870 living with John S. Grooms. He is too old tobe a son at 29 years of age, and was listed as a brother by thiscompiler as well. William was born in Kentucky however, so this maygive an estimated year of the families arrival to Kentucky fromTennessee. It will be assumed since William was a brother and bornin Kentucky that their father must have also died in Kentucky.
