Notes |
- His middle name, Buller would have come from his second cousin Anne Lemon who married John Buller, MP. John Buller's sister, Jane married William Lemon, 1st Baronet of Carclew and also second cousin to Samuel.
Samuel worked as a comptroller of accounts for tea for HM Customs and Excise in the City of London. From correspondence from descendant Alan Martyn, "the Lemons came from Germany as 'Lehmans' to Cornwall around 1650 originally as Miners but later as Government staff in customs".
Upon his retirement, an article in the Falmouth Packet (23 Jan 1864) reads: Samuel Buller Lemon, Esq., (whose father was many years collector at Scilly.) the comptroller (Tea and East India Department, HM Customs House), retires on superannuation, after a service of upward of 42 years.
