Notes |
- The second son, Capt. Charles Douglas, RN (1836-1891), started this family line in Australia by marrying his second wife Margaret Williams in Victoria, Australia in 1881 before being lost at sea in 1891. He had by his first wife Alice Gertrude Mardon (1847-1877) one son and three daughters all born in England, but his son Godfrey Douglas (1871-1930) and daughter Alice Grace Douglas (1875-1962) emigrated to Australia and died there.

Captain Charles Douglas does not have a middle name. I have viewed his three certificates for seamanship, i.e. for second mate, first mate and for Master, and he used the name Charles Douglas for all three. I have viewed his mother's will in which she names all her children, some of whom have a middle name, and in the will she named him 'Charles Douglas'. I have viewed both wedding certificates for Captain Charles Douglas and he used 'Charles Douglas' for both. Charles Douglas is the name of his grandfather and he too does not have a middle name, suggesting that he was named for his grandfather. Captain Charles does not have a middle name.
