Notes |
- John and Anne lived at Mount Pleasant and Fernandocal House (This is probably an incorrect rendering of Farranhavane (or Farranavane) House - see Franklin Kidd?s notes. AD). They had five or six sons and four daughters. Bandon was an important manufacturing centre: linens, woollens, corduroys, camlets and tickings were manufactured on a huge scale. John started a business of his own in Mosgrove, known as "Jenny House." Soon he built Monigat Cotton Mills. He ran his cotton and spinning business until he died.He also farmed 700 acres of land and employed hundreds of hands. A small village grew up beside the mill. He was a kind and considerate man.
His (Richard?s) son John Dawson (1792-1885) also managed the Dawson estates (does he mean Balwin? AD), and he acquired Farranhavane House. close to ?Mount Pleasant?. Farranhavane was a large house with attached farm buildings and lands. John Dawson married Anne Ford (1810-66) in 1829, the union producing six girls and five boys. [1]
