- Andrew Keith of Inverugie (b c1368, d c1448) m. Janet ;
Some sources show or imply that Gilbert was son of Andrew but the dates indicate that, unless Andrew had Gilbert abnormally (for the time) late in life, there was probably an intervening generation with a son who died before Andrew did. It is possible that such a son was called Gilbert and that one or two of the ladies reported below as wives of Gilbert, 3rd of Inverugie, were in fact his mother. It is not known who of those shown as Gilbert's wives was mother of whom.
i. Gilbert Keith, 3rd of Inverugie, 1st of Ludquharn (d c1494)

Mike Wade suggests (November 2020):
1) The Exchequer Rolls of Scotland, Vol 05 (1437-1454), p394, gives Sir William Keith of Inverugie relief on the death of his father, in 1450. Given that Andrew Keith of Inverugie is believed to have died soon after 1447, that means his son was probably called Sir William.
2) Antiquities of Aberdeen & Banff, Vol 2, p401/2 has a Decree of the Tack of Strabrok in 1478/9. If I am reading it correctly it is referring to a previous agreement made by Sir William Keith of Inverugie and Sir Gilbert Keith, his son. This would corrobarate the previous point.
This Sir William, son of Andrew and father of Sir Gilbert must presumably have died before 1455, since that is the date of the first mention I have found of Sir Gilbert being "of Inverugie".
