Notes |
- 2nd son; known as "the Rich Lord".
The Fordoun church occupies a favourable situation, and is one of the finest of our country churches. A square tower adorns the west end of the church, and in the east end is a stained glass window to the memory of the Rev. Dr. Buchan, one of the most worthy and hard-working ministers Scotland has ever seen. The patron saint is St Palladius. He was sent in the year 432 by Pope Celestine to the Scots believing in Christ, a statement that has given rise to endless controversy; but it was to Ireland he was sent, and it is very unlikely that the inhabitants of this district were converted to Christianity till at least a century after the death of St Palladius.
