- ol. Trenton Scott Douglas, Sr., of Eagle Point, Ore., passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Oregon Health Science University as a result of his battle with leukemia.
Trenton was born August 25, 1942, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Harold and Mary Douglas. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1960, and attended Sacramento City College and Southern Oregon University, where he earned his bachelors degree in political science and was district champion in his wrestling weight class.
Trenton was strongly committed to God and country. In 1964, he enlisted in the Army. He graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. As part of his distinguished military career, he served in Vietnam as a platoon leader receiving the Bronze Star. He was battalion commander of the 1st Battalion 186th Infantry, 6th Army liaison officer for the State of Oregon, and held other staff and command positions. In 1993, he was inducted into the Officer Candidates School Hall of Fame. He retired from the U. S. Army Reserve as a colonel.
For over 40 years, Trenton worked in the insurance industry. He served as president of the Rogue Valley Life Underwriters, State Membership Chair, and later, state president of the Oregon Life Underwriters. He was awarded Senior Agent of the Year for the State of Oregon and received the Glenn O. Radcliff Community Service Award.
Trenton had a strong passion for serving his community. Among his accomplishments, he was a member of the Ashland Jaycee's and was named to Outstanding Young Men of America, belonged to the Kiwanis, was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary, a 32nd Degree Scottish Right Mason, and volunteered at the Ashland YMCA and Ashland Little League. He served on the Eagle Point Planning Commission, Rogue Valley Fair Board, and Southern Oregon University Athletic Foundation. He was Potentate of the Hillah Shrine and served until his death on the Board of Governors of the Shriners Hospital in Portland, Ore.
In his leisure, Trenton loved spending time with his family and friends playing golf, hunting, and fishing.
Trenton was married to Michaele "Miki" O'Keefe for 23 years, until her death in 1992. He is survived by his fiance', Yvonne Reiling, of Eagle Point, Ore.; son, Trenton Douglas, II; grandson, Kadin Douglas, of Medford, Ore.; daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Miller, and her husband, Michael, of Tennessee; sister, Sue Pickell, and her husband, Dann, of Seaside, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
