    William Buchanan Douglas

William Buchanan Douglas was born on 4 January 1815 on his family's plantation near Pattonsburg, Botetourt County,Virginia. He was the first son of John B. and Catherine Sence Douglas. He grew up and received a private education on the family plantation . His father died when he was just fifteen years old, leaving William with a substantial inheritance.
He married Catherine Fulwiler on 14 June 1841 in Botetourt County, and they had four children: Catherine, John W., Gustanza and Evaline. In late 1846 William arrived in Warren County, Kentucky, with four small children but without a wife. Apparently Catherine died shortly before the move to Kentucky . On 19 April 1847 he married Martha Elizabeth Alford in Warren County. They set up housekeeping on a two-hundred-acre farm on Lost Creek, which had been purchased in 1822 by his father and was part of William's inherited estate. With his second wife, he had eleven children: James Thomas, Elizabeth Ann, Mary Jane, William Jr., Malvinia Frances, Jessee H., Julia, Virginia B., Steven Arnold, Martha and Hattie. Many descendants of these children still live in the Warren county area today. He continued farming and disposing of his property in Virginia until his death on 26 Oct 1887 at his home on Lost Creek. where he is buried in the family cemetery. He was a member of the Christian Church.

William bought out his siblings in 1857 and from then on he owned the Lost Creek Farm outright. Each sibling owned 20% for which he paid them $60.00 each. Shortly after that his brother, James J. Douglas, and his wife disappeared in Henderson county, Kentucky.

    Birth:
He was the first son of the second marriage of John Douglas Sr. to Catherine Sence.

    Died:
The tombstones of William B. Douglas and Martha E. Douglas, are greatly in need of repair, however they are readable. The foundation of the original house is very visable. the graveyard is adjacent to the ruins and Lost Creek. The cemetery is greatly in need of repair today.

William married Catherine Fulwiler on 14 Jun 1841 in Botetourt Co., Virginia. Catherine was born about 1823 in Botetourt Co. Virginia; died after 22 May 1845 in Botetourt Co. Virginia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 11.  Catherine Fulwiler was born about 1823 in Botetourt Co. Virginia; died after 22 May 1845 in Botetourt Co. Virginia.

    Notes:

    Died:
Catherine may have died in childbirth as the quick sussession of births stopped in 1845 after the birth of Evaline.. Considering how quick the first four children were born and the fact that William B. had eleven children in quick sussesion in his second marriage. This is the current operational theory and there are newspapers available for that period which are now under investigation.

    Notes:

    Married:
William B. Douglas arrived in Warren County Kentucky without a wife but with four very small children in 1847. His wife, Catherine Fulwiler apparently died shortly before his move to Warren county, Kentucky. His sister, Mary E. Douglas, and brother in law, John H. Douglas, made the migration with him. Mary E. and John H. were first cousins.
