2. | Joseph Michael Hardman was born in 1772 in Germany; died in 1868 in Reedyville, Roane Co., West Virginia. Notes: Dorcas Riddle, a daughter of James and Dorcas Ann (Welch) Riddle, was born about 1773. She married Joseph Hardman. Joseph was born in Germany. The family lived on the banks of the Potomac, not far from the Washington estates. Joseph was also a soldier in the revolutionary war. After residing for seven years at Georgetown, Joseph moved his family to Fredericksburg, Virginia, and there he was a butcher. He accumulated means to enable him to move into the newer country beyond the Alleghenies. With his wife, Dorcas, and three children, he set out in wagons to cross the mountains. For a time he lived in Randolph County, then later continued on to settle on Cedar Creek, in what is now Gilmer County WV in 1797. Joseph married Dorcas Welsh Riddle about 1785. 6. | James Clinton Riddle was born on 15 Aug 1738 in Prince George's Co., Maryland (son of John Riddle and Elizabeth Linton); died on 26 Feb 1816 in Cheat River, Tucker, Lewis Co., West Virgina, USA; was buried in Mouth Of Leading Creek, West Virginia. Notes: On January 26, 1802, James signed an indenture to Hiram Goff in Randolph County VA (WV) to clear forty acres of land, build a house and a barn and plant a hundred apple trees in exchange for "Salathiel Goff's Holly Meadows Farm." This farm was sold to George Long by James' son Benjamin November 2, 1819 for $5,400. James married Anne Welsh between 1760 and 1761 in Georgetown, Cecil Co., Maryland.
