    Notes:

From the 1983 Lane Family Genealogy by Everett Richard Lane.

Horace had a very interesting life. He graduated from Culbertson High School and attended Montana Wesleyan College in Helena in 1917. Near the end of his freshman year he enlisted in the naval Reserve and was on active duty until December 1918. he returned to Montana Wesleyan and graduated in 1921. August 3, 1921, he married Dorotha Bartlett. But before I go on I must say that while he was in college he was Montana's alternate for the Rhodes scholarship. After graduating from Montana Wesleyan he attended the University of Oregon 1921-22. After that he returned to Helena as principle of the college academy for two years. While in Helena his first child, Horace, was born. These two years at the academy were followed by two years in public schools. During this time Helen was born. After this he turned to newspaper work and moved to Portland, Oregon, and took a job on the news desk for the Oregonian. It was here Charis was born. A year later he moved ot Olympia, Washington, where for fourteen years he was managing editor for the Daily Olympian, OLympia, Washington. His last two children, Robert and Barbara, were born here.
In 1941 he moved to Seattle, Washington, and joined the news staff of the Times. Sometime between 1946 and 1948 he became make-up editor and held that job until his retirement January 1, 1967.
After retiring in 1967 in collaboration with Adelia M. Price he wrote Montana Driftwood, a book on the history of Montana. It was well received by the public and it was necessary to have a second printing in August 1968. He continued to enjoy his retirement until May 1976 when he was called home to his eternal resting place.

Horace married Doratha Louise [Bartlett] Lane on 3 Aug 1921 in Red Lodge, Montana. Doratha was born on 5 Sep 1901 in Monona, Iowa. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 8.  Amos Lane was born in 1804 in Vermont; died in 1851.

    Notes:

Found in 1850 census in Chautaugua County, New York. At that time he was 46 years old and Lucy was 40 years old. They had seven children. ?The eldest, who was 19 at that time, was named Augustus Lane. This may also be what the A. Lane stood for. Also the second son, Harry Cuyler Lane, and also William Cuyler Lane. The Cuyler may be Lucy's Maiden name. The obituary story from the Oshkosh newspaper indicates they appeared in Oshkosh early in the 1850's, but there is no mention of A. Lane coming to Oshkosh.
A search for the early Lane family members, recently found an Amos Lane in Westchester County, New York. He appears on the 1790 census of this county in the city of Yorktown. Because of the dates it appears he possibly may be the father of our Amos. There is some information the Lanes were from Long Island. There also is some information they were in Rensselear County, not far from Long Island. ?Also the Ebenezer Lane seemed to have roots in Long Island.
Also an Aaron Sanders was found in Westchester County, Which is the name of Lucy Sanders father.

Amos + Lucy [Sanders] Lane. Lucy (daughter of Aaron Sanders) was born in 1810 in Bakersfield, Vermont; died on 17 Mar 1895 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
