He was a sergeant during the Revolutionary War; serving as a member of the 6th Company, 5th Connecticut Regiment. 'The Barnum Family' lists his sons as Charles, Beck and Eli.
'The Barnum Family' gives his birth year as 1762.
2. Eliphalet Barnum was born in 1729 in Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut (son of Thomas Barnum and Deborah Unknown); died on 5 Oct 1768. Notes:

A handwritten note in a copy of the 'Genealogical Record of the Barnum Family' states that Eliphalet Barnum fought in the Revolutionary War as a sergeant in Captain Noble BENEDICT's Sixth Company, 16th Connecticut Regiment. That notation appears to be in error, since the date of Eliphalet's death is several years before the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The reference may have been to Eliphalet Barnum (1750-1777), son of this Eliphalet, although his regimental affiliation was different. Eliphalet's widow and children fled from Danbury, Connecticut, the day before it was burned and looted by the British under General William TRYON (Apr 1777). This list of Eliphalet's children is said to be incomplete.

She was the daughter of Samuel Beardsley (1638-1705), a member of Stratford society, and his wife Abigail CLARKE. H. F. Johnston, editor of 'Wm. Beardsley of Stratford Connecticut and His Descendants, ' says that Sarah's husband was John Barnum
