Douglas leased a plantation in an area called Leed's Manor. This plantation was leased from Thomas,Lord Fairax. Leeds Manor was near the Blue Ridge Mountains in western Virginia, this area today is in the Shenandoah Valley. Leeds Manor was in Prince William Co., he later moved to Fauquier then Culpeper and finally (ca 1793) Botetourt Co. Benjamin married Charity Tennill about 1761 in Prince William Co., Virginia. Charity was born in Jun 1742 in Prince William Co., Virginia; died in Jul 1832 in Montgomery Co. Virginia; was buried in Jul 1832 in Craig Cemetery, Montgomery Co., Virginia. Notes: William Douglas was apparently the first member of the family to move from Maryland to Virginia. According to Wilson Cary, William Douglas was still living in Charles County, Maryland in 1761. This would mean that only the last five or six years of his life were spent in Virginia. Wilson Cary also states that William and Sarah only had two children, Benjamin T. and Joseph. Robert Behethland who came to America in 1607 with Captain. John Smith and founded Jamestown. The name "Behethlon, Behethlan, Behethie, etc. show up in almost all early generations as female names.
