  1. 2.  Rev. Adam Ronald Rentoul Torrie, M.A. was born on 12 Sep 1918 in Belfast, Northern Ireland; died on 26 Jun 1996.

    Notes:

    Rev Adam Ronald Rentoul Torrie was born in Belfast in 1918, a son of the manse. He attended St Andrew's University from 1937-40 and 1945-48 interrupted by war service. He was licensed by St Andrew's Presbytery in 1948 and inducted and ordained in Islay.

    He married Elizabeth Maclean of Ardgour and they had five children. From Islay, Ronald Torrie was transferred and inducted at Gibraltar St Andrew's in 1951 where he remained before being inducted at Birnie in 1956. In 1973 the parish of Pluscarden was linked with Birnie and Mr Torrie, who referred to himself as "Hobson's choice" served the linked charge until he retired in 1986. He died in 1996

  1. 6.  Lt.-Col. Alexander John Hew Maclean, 16th of Ardgour was born on 1 Dec 1880 (son of Alexander Thomas Maclean and Selina Phillipa Dicken); died on 27 May 1930.

    Notes:

    The Ardgour branch of the Macleans, which held its lands directly from the Lord of the Isles, is descended from Donald, another son of Lachlan, third laird of Dowart. The estate of Ardgour, which is in Argyleshire, had previously belonged to a different tribe (the Macmasters), but it was conferred upon Donald, either by Alexander, Earl of Ross, or by his son and successor, John. In 1463, Ewen or Eugene, son of Donald, held the office of seneschal of the household to the latter earl; and in 1493, Lachlan Macewen Maclean was laird of Ardgour. Alexander Maclean, Esq, the 16th laird of Ardgour, is the 14th from father to son. The 17th laird was his daughter, Riona, and the title then passed to a nephew, Robin Torrie, who has since taken the name Maclean of Ardgour.

    Reputedly died of a heart attack whilst cutting wood.

    He was chairman of Burns Steamship Company Ltd.
    He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Dumbartonshire.
    He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss, co. Renfrew [U.K., 1897] on 8 October 1905.
    He became a Master of the Company of Shipwrights in 1918.

    James married Charlotte Mary Emily (of Machermore) Nugent-Dunbar on 2 Apr 1891. Charlotte (daughter of Robert (of Machermore Castle) Nugent-Dunbar and Annette Ellen Singleton-Atcheson) was born on 2 Dec 1866; died on 24 Jul 1951; was buried in Minnigaff, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.     Known as Lady Lottie
    When she moved out of Castle Wemyss, she lived in in Berkeley Square, London.
