(Chief) (Sir) William Grierson or Grier''', (eldest lawful son of Rodger Grierson, of Lag, 8th Lord of Lag), was born c1567; died January 29th, 1629, 9th Lord of Lag, married on May 9th, 1593, Dumfries-shire, Scotland & had issue; was buried February 17th, 1629, Old Dunscore Church Cemetery, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. Special Commission by King James VI. to the Sheriff of Dumfries, & Steward of Annandale, the Provost & Bailies of Dumfries, & Annan, the (Captain & Lieutenant of the Guard), & to (Sir) William Douglas, his eldest son, (Sir) WILLIAM GREIR [Grierson] of Lag, (Sir) John Charteris of Amisfield, & (Sir) James Murray of Cockpool, or any of them; directing them to seek for & apprehend a large number of Borderers, whose names are given (Armstrongs, Irvings, Grahams, &c.), who had risen in arms & prevented a survey of the debateable land which the King had ordered, and who having been put to the horn, paid no respect to it; dated JULY 16th, 1607; (Inventories (no. 466) of The Muniments of The Families of Maxwell, Herries & Nithsdale ~ In The Charter-room at Terregles. Edinburgh, [Scotland], dated 1865).

Chief) (Sir) Roger Grierson, 8th Lord of Lag was born before 1535 at Cullean, Ayrshire, Scotland. He was the son of (Sir) John Grierson, 6th Lord of Lag, & his wife, Egidia (aka Giles) Kennedy. He married, firstly, Helen Douglas, daughter of (Sir) James Douglas, 7th of Drumlanrig & his wife, Christian Montgomerie, on 21st April, 1566 at Drumlanrig Castle, Drumlanrig, Scotland. He married, secondly, Margaret Chalmers after 1578. He died in August, 1593 at Dunscore, Dumfries-shire, Scotland. Edinburgh Commissary Court Wills - CC8/8/40: 1st June 1605 - testament dative - of RODGER GREIRONE (sic) of Lag within the parish of Dunscor[e], died July 1594, given up by (Sir) William Greirsone, now of Lag, eldest lawful son to the deceased.
