12. John W. Riddle, Sr. was born about 1760 in Prince George's Co., Maryland (son of John Riddle and Mary); died on 18 Mar 1844 in Pensacola, Yancey Co., North Carolina. Notes:
John Riddle and Benjamin Hawkins were awarded a grant to 200 acres located on the waters of Mill Creek adjoining William Hawkins' land. They paid 10 pounds per 100 acres. John's land was located near Raccoon Creek and Hawkins Mill Creek, 36d28m, 80d07m. John and Randolph Riddle lived about one mile from each other in the northeast corner of what is now Stokes Co.
John Riddle was ordered to be released from paying poll tax in 1784 due to being under age.
