Love of Haywood Co. sold land to Nathaniel Riddle of Yancey Co. for $50.00, 50 acres in Yancey Co. adj Thos. Ray, Sr., John Riddle, Sr. & Wm. Wilson, beg E bank of Cainy River nr Thos. Ray, Sr. corner E 192 on a flat ridge..N 42 nr Wm. Wilson line..W 192 on Riddle line..S 42 to beg. Originally granted to John G. Blount.. in pres of Joseph Allen & Micager Blankinship.
    Madison Co. was formed from Buncombe & Yancey Co. in 1851. Yancey Co. formed from Buncombe & Burke Co. in 1833. Buncombe created in 1791 from Burke & Rutherford.

    Notes:

    John Riddle and Benjamin Hawkins were awarded a grant to 200 acres located on the waters of Mill Creek adjoining William Hawkins' land. They paid 10 pounds per 100 acres. John's land was located near Raccoon Creek and Hawkins Mill Creek, 36d28m, 80d07m. John and Randolph Riddle lived about one mile from each other in the northeast corner of what is now Stokes Co.
    John Riddle was ordered to be released from paying poll tax in 1784 due to being under age.

    Based on a recent discovery of a Bible belived to have belonged to either Benjamin Tyree Riddle or to his son James Riddle, the following is recorded: 'John Riddle died the 18th of March 1844.'

    I found the following records on Basil Riddle, together with others of his family, in Saint Barnabas Church, Queen Anne Parish, Prince Georges, Maryland:

    Parents are listed as John and Elizabeth Riddle. The date span between the various children's births makes me doubt that this is all one family. I will put down what I have, for what it's worth. It seems to go along with some of the List messages this week about Jeremian and George Riddle as well as Basil.
