    MOLINE, THE DISPATCH NEWSPAPER, ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, ILLINOIS
    CAMBRIDGE -- Charles Combs, 55, native of Osco, died this morning inthe Proctor Hospital in Peoria after a lengthy illness. Funeralservices will be held at 2 Monday in the St. Paul's Chapel in Peoria.Mr. Combs was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Combs, and went toPeoria from Osco vicinity in early manhood. Survivors are the widowin Peoria; four sons, William of Cambridge, Tommie, Dannie, and Allenof Peoria; one daughter, Mrs. Victor White of Galva, and two sisters,Mrs. John Lough of Moline and Mrs. George Blair of Cambridge.Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother."     ?E.A. COMBS DIES After Long Illness; Funeral on Sunday---Edward A.Combs, 72, well-known resident of this community all his life, died athis home on North street at 4 o?clock Thursday afternoon followingeleven weeks illness. His condition had been critical ever since hesuffered a stroke in May. Edward Arthur Combs was born October 2,1871, in Osco township, son of Andrew and Louise Combs. He was rearedand educated there and on Feb.6, 1895, he was married to MayButterfield at Gardner. They lived on their farm northwest ofCambridge until 21 years ago when they retired from the farm and movedto Cambridge. Eighteen years ago he accepted a position with theFarmers Cooperative Seed company and worked there until a few weeksbefore he suffered the stroke. Mr. Combs had a quiet, but pleasantpersonality which won him the friendship of all who knew him. He issurvived by the widow, one son, Charles of Peoria, and two daughters,Mrs. John Lough of Pocahontas, Ark., and Mrs. George Blair of Orion,two brothers, Henry of Geneseo and Joe of Cambridge, twelvegrandchildren and one great grandchild. One son, Edward, preceded himin death twelve years ago. Funeral services were held from the homeSunday afternoon at 2 o?clock with Dr. J.M. Jones, pastor of theBaptist church in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Jones gave the song service.Pallbearers were Walter Barner, Willie Reed, Casper Boss, A. Nash,Arthur Garrison, and ___ Clark. Burial was in the Grace churchcemetery in Osco Township.?

    "I got the marriage date from the Illinois Marriage Records online andit mentions the same date February 26, 1895 in her obituary. In the1880 Census Amy "May" Butterfield is living with her family inBraceville, Grundy Co., IL. - Oliver and Lydia (Leach) Butterfield.Her mother died when she was young so she was sent to live with anaunt in Scranton, PA., and stayed there until she grew to maturity.Then she went to Henry County to visit relatives and met Edward A.Combs and they were then married February 26, 1895 in Gardner, GrundyCo., IL.     CAMBRIDGE -- Mrs. May Combs, 78, died about 7 Sunday evening after shesuffered a heart attack while riding in East Moline in a car with herson-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Blair of Cambridge, withwhom she resided. East Moline police used a resuscitator in a futileeffort to revive the woman. The body was taken to the Schroderfuneral home in Silvis and later it was removed to the Stackhousefuneral home in Cambridge. FUNERAL IS WEDNESDAY Funeral serviceswill be at 2 Wednesday afternoon in the Stackhouse chapel with theRev. Chaning Savage, rector of Christ Episcopal church, Moline,officiating. Burial will be in Grace Church Cemetery at Osco (This isactually north of Cambridge in Osco Township). Friends may call atthe funeral home from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening. Mrs. Combs was bornSept. 22, 1871 at Braceville. Her parents were Oliver and LydiaButterfield. She had lived in Cambridge vicinity 55 years. Hermarriage occurred Feb. 26, 1895, at Gardner to Edward A. Combs. Hepreceded her in death. Mrs. Combs was a member of the CambridgeBaptist church and Grace church guild of Osco.     Andrew J. Combs died at his home in Osco, February 20, 1897, ofconsumption. Mr. Combs was born in McArthur, Athens County, Ohio,October 22, 1837, and was the only son of Thomas and Anna FraleyCombs. At the age of 11 he moved to Chillecothe, Ohio, where he liveduntil 1952, when he removed to Bureau County, ILL. He came to Osco,Henry County, in 1865 where he has since lived an honored citizen. Heleaves a wife, Laura (Ringle) Combs, and three sons to mourn his loss.R. H. Hinman, of Cambridge, and Mrs. Leah Nolind, of Conesville, Iowasurvive him. The funeral services were held at Grace church, Osco,February 22, Rev. Purce, assisted by Rev. Thornton, of Geneseo,officiating. The remains were interred in Grace Church Cemetery."

    Aged Cambridge Woman Dies In Rapp Home; Member of Pioneer Family.
    Geneseo, Jan 18, -- Mrs. Louise Combs, one of the few Cambridgematriarchs who had reached and passed their 90th year, died at 10 thismorning in the home of Mrs. Sam Rapp of Geneseo. She was 94 yearsold. The body was taken to Myers' Funeral Chapel, where funeralarrangements are incomplete. Mrs. Combs, for ninety-one years aresident of Henry County, became ill of pneumonia last spring and wastaken to the Geneseo hospital. She was later taken to the Rapp homehere, where she had been cared for during the last eight months.Prior to entering the hospital, Mrs. Combs had been residing with hersons in Geneseo, Cambridge and Galva. Mrs. Combs was born nearPittsburgh, Pa., on Oct. 11, 1845, the daughter of Joseph and MarianneRingle. When she was 3 years old, her family migrated to Henry Countyand settled in Munson Township, later purchasing land in OscoTownship. On May 23, 1867, she was married to Andrew Combs. Thecouple operated a farm near Osco until Mr. Combs' death in 1897. Mrs.Combs then moved to Cambridge and lived in a house she owned on WestLocust Street for several years. Survivors are three sons, Henry ofGeneseo, Ed of Cambridge and Joseph of Galva, one brother WilliamRingle of Pasadena, Cal., former Cambridge business man; severalgrandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. three brothers and asister preceded her in death."     "Joseph Ringle, the father of John Ringle, was a coal miner and owneda number of teams, hauling coal into Pittsburg. Having determined toestablish his home in this state (IL.), He first sent his son James toHenry County with four horses and a wagon and in the Spring of 1857came here with the other members of the family. They took up theirabode on a rented farm in Munson township and later the fatherpurchased a tract of one hundred and sixty acres in Osco township,where he reared his children. During the fifteen years of his life helived retired in Cambridge, having won a comfortable competencethrough the careful conduct of his agricultural interests. Hisdemise, which occurred at the home of his son William in Oscotownship, was the occasion of deep and widespread regret. His wife,who survived him, was called to her final rest on the 3d of December,1898, when eighty-four years of age. They were both devoted andfaithful members of the Presbyterian church. Their union was blessedwith nine children, seven of whom still survive, namely: James; John,of this review; Catharine, the widow of Harrison Moore, of Newton,Iowa; William, a resident of Cambridge; Louisa, the widow of A.J.Combs, of Cambridge; Mary, the widow of J.C. Upon this hereared his family and greatly improved the property, making it avaluable farm. He died at the home of his son William in OscoTownship, his wife surviving him for several years.     MRS. MARY ANN (WHITESELL) RINGLE.


    Mrs.Mary Ann Whitesell Ringle was born in Westmorelan
    d County, Pa. Dec.19, 1814 and was therefore, at the time of her death near hereighty-fifth birthday. On May 21st, 1836, at the age of twenty-one,she was married to Mathias Ringle, who died May 22nd 1893. Mrs.Ringle has been a member of the congregational Church of Cambridge formany years. She leaves seven children, four sons and three daughters. The sons are James , of Munson, John, of Cambridge and William andDavid of Osco. The daughters are Mrs. A.J. Combs and Mrs. JohnSherrard of Cambridge and Mrs. Harrison Moose, of Newton, IA. Herearnest and consistent Christian like rendered her presence atbenediction everywhere. ?Yea, saith the spirit, they shall rest fromtheir labors and their work do follow him.? The funeral services wereconducted at 10:00 a.m. Dec. 5th from the home of Mrs. Combs, herdaughter in Cambridge, and at the Grace church, Osco at 1 p.m. Rev.William Wallace officiating assisted by, Rev. Purce.? NOTE: Headstone& photo reads b. 19 Dec 1814, d. 03 Dec 1898, and she is buried withher husband JOSEPH RINGLE.
