  1. 1.  Olivier Douglas was born about 1505; died on 18 Aug 1558 in Ployart-et-Vaurseine, Aisne, Picardie, France; was buried in ?glise Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens - Ployart-et-Vaurseine, Aisne, Picardie, France.

    Notes:

Lord of Ployart and Arrancy - Butler(?) to the Dowager Duchess of Guise - Governor of the strongholds of the Abbey of Saint-Nicaise in Reims (1557)

Arancy, at the end of the Middle Ages, was therefore a small remote village, whose seigniory, with an insignificant income, was indivisible between the squires of La Bove, which had just been erected into a barony, and those of Neuville.

One of the latter, whose tomb can still be seen there, Charles des Ursins, was grand prior of Aquitaine in the order of Malta and had as "butler" a Breton gentleman named Du Glas (DOUGLAS Olivier) , who had probably been governor of his nephews, the co-heirs of the seigneury of Ployart and Arancy, because they donated it to him by deed of 1530, on the occasion of his marriage to a bridesmaid of their aunt , the lady of Espence, born Yolande des Ursins.Isabeau de Wignacourt, this young lady, was of no lesser family than the husband whom she approved: Olivier Du Glas (Douglas) claimed to be descended from the illustrious Scottish race of the Douglas, and this no doubt aided in the brilliant establishment of all the sons who were born of this union, where the gifts of fortune certainly did not equal those of his birth.

    Sorry about the poor translation!
