  1. 1.  Sir James (8th Bt of Langton) Cockburn was born about 1729; died in Oct 1804.

    Notes:

    He was Member of Parliament for Linlithgow Burghs from 1772 to 1784.

    Commissary General to the Army in Germany, 1762-1763

    His paternal grandparents were Sir Alexander Cockburn, 6th Baronet and his wife Mary Ancrum. His maternal grandfather was Dr. James Cockburn of Jamaica.
    Alexander and Dr. James Cockburn were brothers. They were both sons of Sir Archibald Cockburn, 4th Baronet and his wife Marion Sinclair.

    James married Mary (?Polly?) Douglas in 1755. Mary (daughter of Henry (of Friarshaw and Pinnacle) Douglas) died on 5 Apr 1766. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
