"I shall write later on this family, because there were about threedifferent branches of the MacLaurin family which settled in GlengarryCounty. My Aunt Maggy Cameron (sister to my grandfather Cameron) marriedAlexander MacLaurin (they lived at Sandringham west of the village ofMaxville, and my Dad taught in Sandringham school) who, I think,descended from the Minister who founded Breadalbane in the northeastcorner of Glengarry County. I shall have to check out these MacLaurins.From what I understand this family of MacLaurin came from Breadalbanenear Loch Tay in Scotland. There was also a Minister in Martintown,Ontario, by the name MacLaurin, and I think it was he who was theancestor to Roderick's cousin, but this all has to be doublecheckedbecause I am not an expert on this family. I shall attempt to find outmore about the MacLaurin family. "

"The family of MacLaurins which lived at the northeast corner ofGlengarry near the Quebec border were known as Breadalbane "Craignavies",descended from the family of the Rev. John MacLaurin(Baptist)ofCraignavie The community of Breadalbane in Lochiel Township, GlengarryCounty, is north of the village of Dalkeith, Ontario.

From what I understand(Rev. John MacLaurin (Baptist) was the ancestor ofgranduncle Alex(Aleck) MacLaurin, the husband of Aunt Maggy(Margaret)Cameron. Rev. John MacLaurin(Baptist) was, I was told, the one who leadthe 1816 migration(Breadalbane) from Perthshire to settle on theeighth and ninth concessions of Lochiel Township, Glengarry County,Ontario. Many of the families in the 1816 mig. from Breadalbane were theMacLaurins of Craignavie(Uncle Aleck's family), McKillicans, Campbells,MacDermids, Lothians, MacDougalls, Stewarts( think the Stewarts ofStewart's Glen(two of Margaret MacEwen's dau. married into this family)on the Scotch River near Dunvegan, Glengarry, descend from theBreadalbane mig), Irvines and Camerons(no relation to me)..
Stewart's Glen is about six miles(m/l) northeast of the village ofMaxville."

Margaret Cameron writes

"First, please note the following re the two distinct branches(although Ithink that they were, perhaps, distantly 'connected') of the MacLaurinfamily which settled in Glengarry:"

One is described above the other she describes as follows

"Donald MacLaurin of Balquihidder, Perthshire, migrated first toRosebank, Ontario c 1818 with his family, including eleven year old JohnColin. John Colin was sent back to study in Scotland, and returned toCanada as an ordained Minister who preached in Martintown, Ontario(avillage about fifteen miles ne of Long Sault) His forefathers had livedat Lochearnhead and his uncle at Collander(Scotland).

Soon after he arrived in Martintown, Rev. John Colin MacLaurin marriedAnn McDonell of 'Mayfield" near Williamstown, Ontario. She descendedfrom Hugh McDonell and Ann(Nancy) Cameron, daughter of Alexander Cameron,whose brother was Duncan Cameron 'the furtrader', father of RoderickCameron who had the first clipper ship service between New York andAustralia. This is the cousin to whom Roderick wrote the letter c 1900.

Mayfield was the name given to Duncan the furtrader's home inWilliamstown(at eastern environs of village which is about fifteenmiles(m/l) east of Long Sault and se of Martintown).

I think that Rev. John MacLaurin of Martintown died c 1855."
