    Listed in 1860 as age 15 with his parents, and 3 brothers. Apparently moved to Iowa after the birth of his son in Ohio in 1870. He is listed in the 1875 thru 1878 city directories for Iowa City as a blacksmith, living on Harrison. Listed as L. D. Porch in 1880, age 32 and a blacksmith. He is listed with his wife and son, showing both his parents as being born in PA.
    Listed again in the 1885 Iowa State census as Luce D. Porch (39), a blacksmith with his wife ?Maud? and son Lloyd N. (14).
    He is listed in the 1890 Iowa City directory, as a blacksmith at 131 s Capitol.
    In 1900 he is listed as Luke D. Porch as age 56 with Samantha, born in Sept 1843, and a blacksmith. He lived in his own (mortgaged) home.
    Luke and Samantha are listed in both the 1904 and 1908 Iowa City directories, although the researcher at the Iowa City Gen Society commented that they are often copied from one year to another, meaning they were at least living in 1907.

    PIONEER GONE TO OTHER SHORE - L. D. Porch Passes Away At West Side Home:
    Former Marshal of Iowa City is Now No More --Will be Laid to Rest Wednesday Afternoon.
    L.D. Porch, formerly marshal of Iowa City, and the holder of other positions of trust in the county, died this morning, at six o'clock, at his home on the West Side. He was 62 years of age, and was a victim of a combination of ailments. He had live[sic] here 35 years and was respected by everybody. A wife and one son, Lloyd, survive. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon from the family residence, and Rev. A.B. Leamer will officiate. Mr. Porch was an honored member of the Red Men, the Odd Fellows, and the English Lutheran Church.
    The Porch stone in Oakland cemetery has the inscription ?Father? on it, suggesting that the stone was to serve for both parents but that the inscription for ?Mother? did not get done.
