Subject: [DEXTER] Joseph DEXTER, b1764 RI .. "Fifer in Second RI Regiment" ??

    Hello,

While I have a Young family history document out on my desk, I'd like to mention one paragraph which relates to the DEXTER family I am researching:

"Of particular interest is an ancestor named Joseph Dexter (b.1764, Smithfield, RI) who was the first of that line to come to Connecticut. He served in the Revolutionary War, as a fifer in the Second Rhode Island Regiment, and suffered through the bitter winter at Valley Forge, even though he was only in teen years at the time. ..

Joseph Dexter, and his brother, Phillip Dexter, came to the Killingly, Connecticut, area in 1785, and began farm settlements on their own."

(This is a home-made document researched and prepared by Winthrop Young in 1980's (?). He was the son of Earl Young, only child of Abner and Clara Allen (DEXTER) Young. Clara was the only daughter of John and Mary (CLARK) DEXTER. John was the only son of Marvin and Mary (ALLEN)
DEXTER (had one sister), and Marvin was one of 9 children of Joseph and Mary
    (ALLEN) DEXTER (above).)

    Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

Joseph married Unknown in 1756. and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
