    Colonel Francis John CARRUTHERS, C.B., 11th of Dormont, Late Kings Own Scottish Borderers, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Dumfries who died 22nd May 1945 in his 78th year. PROMPTUS ET FIDELIS. And of his widow Olive Christian [JOHNSTON-DOUGLAS] daughter of A.H. Johnston-Douglas of Lockerbie, born 22nd April 1878, died 11th Jany 1977.

    Major Carruthers served in campaigns in Egypt and South Africa and was also a member of the Queens Bodyguard in Scotland; the Royal Company of Archers (RCA), holding the rank of Brigadier. He was also Assistant Director at the War Office.

    Francis married Olive Christian Johnstone-Douglas in 1905. Olive (daughter of Arthur Henry Johnstone-Douglas and Jane Maitland Stewart) was born on 22 Apr 1878; died on 11 Jan 1977; was buried in Dalton Parish Cemetery. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
