Elmer J. Rice was in town on Monday on a last roundup before theelection. He has been very busy threshing beans, finishing for hisopponent, Mr. Hite on Saturday.

Elmer Rice announces candidacy
Elmer J. Rice announces elsewhere his candidacy for assessor on thedemocratic ticket. Mr. Rice is the son of Nelson Rice and a brother toJoseph Rice. He is one of the substantial citizens of the township,and if nominated and elected will give careful attention to the dutiesof his office.

Elmer J. RICE, 71, died suddenly Thurs of last week at his home 4miles west of New Market following a heart attack. He was born inMontgomery County Sept 11, 1886, the son of Nelson and Frances EasleyRice. He was married to Goldie Hardy who died in 1916, later marriedto Hattie Pate [correction -- Kate or Katie Belle (Tate) Boraker], whosurvives. He was a member of the New Market Baptist Church and ModernWoodmen Lodge. He was a director in the Farmers State Bank at NewMarket. Survivors include the wife; five daughters, Mrs. EvelynReddish of Russellville; Mrs. Elizabeth Kelly of Anderson; Mrs. SarahJane Wilbur of Alamo; Mrs. Louise Bell of Crawfordsville and Mrs.Wilma Hart of Waveland; 7 sons, Joe of Crawfordsville; Robert ofLinden; David of Lafayette and Arthur, Alfred, Dan and Benjamin of NewMarket; a stepson, Lanford Boraker [correction - Sanford G. Boraker]of Crawfordsville and brother, Joe of Waynetown. Funeral services wereheld at Noble Reeves Funeral Home, New Market Sunday with burial inIndian Creek Cemetery."
