Possibly the son of Peter Cunningham, Stockbroker, 5 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, who was dead by 18 Dec 1894.
This may be Peter Cunningham, b. 2 Feb 1822, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland married Janet "Jessie" Elder Rowe, son of William Cunningham, b. 10 Dec 1778, Scotland d. 31 Aug 1848, and his wife Barbara Sinclair, b. 1789, Scotland d. 1847, Scotland, himself the son of Patrick Cunningham, b. 19 Jul 1747, Scotland d. 2 Apr 1812, Scotland who married Isabella Brown, b. 10 Nov 1750, Scotland d. 2 Apr 1810, Scotland. Patrick was the son of Patrick Cunningham, b. 7 Jun 1713, Corstorphine, Midlothian Scotland d. 30 Nov 1783, Scotland and his wife Agnes Coutts, b. 21 Jun 1716, Scotland d. 22 Jul 1797, himself the son of John Cunningham, b. Jun 1666, and his wife Margaret Davie.
In July of 1871, one Richard Trotter granted a "feu charter" (an indefinite lease held for a fixed amount of rent) of over two acres of land to James Cuthbertson Cunningham, linseed manufacturer of Leith, on ,condition that the house erected thereon, would have a value of not less than ?3,000 (about ?130,000 by today's rates).
