Notes |
- Please also refer to William Griffen Esquire's notes. More researchis certainly required on John Griffen/Griffin.
In the Family Tree Maker CD276 Scotch-Irish Settlers in Ameriaca,1500s-1800s, there are other references to this John Griffen/Griffinin relationship to his surveying land for others, being a foreman on ajury hearing similar to present day grand jury's, some court dealingswith the land that his wife Elizabeth inherited, and assundry otherthings, but no Will was discovered nor any children's names.
This did limit the knowledge needed to be assured that this was theJohn Griffen of the family being researched at this time. This couldalso be the older Griffin in the 1810 Federal Census Record inGuilford County, North Carolina living with G/J Griffin. ???
As is noted, his surname did change from originally Griffen to Griffinin the court records. The first listings were, "Griffen" suggestingthat this was the original family name as it was for William GriffenEsquire of Virginia as well. It was also noted that this JohnGriffen/Griffin had moved to North Carolina as did Thomas Griffin ofAugusta County, Virginia. From what I could tell with theinformation below, John owned lot 12 in Staunton, his wife Elizabethinherited a 3rd part of Lots 1 & 4, of which John was also entitled toby marriage. Both, John and Elizabeth had moved to German Town inNorth Carolina by 1794.
