- 1900 U.S. Census in Scott County, Davenport, Iowa lists him with hisparents as a child, and two other siblings as being born in Germany, birth date November 1885. Since we know that his brother Peter Juhlwas born in Hamburg, we find later that in the 1920 census the familyare all listed as from Holstein, Schlewig, Germany including HansNickolas. George Peter Juhl remembers him going to Cook County,Chicago when George was a young man with his uncle George, Hans'sbrother. The uncle or older George Juhl traveled to other states fromtime to time to look for work. So, this is quite possible. [08 May2006, SLJuhl, compiler].
