Subject: [CASE mail list] Newton, Ervin, and Martin Case
Greetings!
An article in the Crescent News of Defiance, Ohio dated Monday, January 6, 2003 about preserving pioneer cemeteries (and other historical heritage such as native American mounds, etc.) begins with these two paragraphs:
"POWELL (AP) - Amid unwieldy grass and fallen leaves, three small stone moss-covered tablets poke crookedly from a rolling pasture where Newton Case's three children were buried in the 1840's. Little is known about Case, a farmer who was the original settler of
part of southern Delaare County. However, the tiny cemetery gives clues to three tragedies in his life - sons Ervin, Martin, and an unnamed
infant all died before age two."
Powell is the name of the town in Ohio located in Delaware County. The story was apparently printed in the Associated Press prior to the Crescent News printing. The rest of the article is about preserving history lest we lose valuable info such as cemetery interments, old town names and locations, etc.
