Notes |
- There are two servants living with the Groom gentlemen, and one ofthem is believed to be John G. Groom's wife Katie. Known then asKatie Duncan. I could not find any records as yet of who Katie'sparents may be. At first I thought that perhaps it was Lizzie, theolder servant working in the house as well, however the birth placesdo not match up. Katie gives herself and her parents as all beingfrom Tennessee, but Lizzie the older servant gives different statesfor her birth and her parents. It could also be that both of Katie'sparents are no longer living either. Katie's birth date falls betweenthe census years, and Mercer County has very few records availableelectronically. A trip to the Historical Society is planned forfuture research.
It looks like John G. Groom worked the coal mines like his father did. In Farmington there was a good size mine, Silver Creek, and is knowdoubt where he worked after leaving Mercer County. In the WWIRegistration Card of Isaac Ward it also lists the Silver Creek mine ashis place of employment. [10 january 2007, SLJuhl, compiler]
